Richard Oliver will, 28 October 1834
Here is a transcription of the will of Richard Oliver of Granville dated 28 October 1834, proved 14 December 1835:
In the name of God Amen I Richard Oliver of the Township of Granville in the County of Annapolis Yeoman being weak in body but of sound Mind Memory and understanding praised be God for the same do make and publish this my last Will & Testament in manner following that is to say- first and principally I Commend my soul to God who gave it hoping for Salvation through the Merits of my Saviour & Redeemer Jesus Christ, my body I wish to be Buried in decent Christian Burial, My Worldly goods wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with I give and dispose of as follows- I give and Bequeath all my lands & Buildings & household Furniture to my beloved wife during her life time or as long as she remains my Widow and no longer and at her death or remarrying to be disposed of as follows. I give and Bequeath to my Son William the mill seat upon which his Mills now stands & the (--------) his other Buildings now stands or ate situated also one Acre of Land adjoining the Mills on the East side of the Brook him his Heirs & Assigns for ever. The said Acre of land to run eight Rods along the east side of the Brook untill it makes one acre. To my Son David I give four acres of salt Marsh bounded on the River southerly & on marsh owned by James Halladay on the West, northerly by a Creek to run from the River to the said Creek untill it measures four Acres the east line to be parallel with the west line him his Heirs or Assigns forever. To my son Aaron I give a tract of land bounded on the north by my son David’s land & to run Southerly until it measures twenty Acres on the south side of the crossroad the full width of my land. Also I give my Son Aaron the lot known and distinguished as Lot Number Six in the Mountain Division on the west side of the main Road, being the Land purchased from the late James VBlarcom Containing one hundred Acres more or less and further I leave or give to my son Aaron a piece of salt marsh bounded easterly by James Halladay southerly by the River Westerly by land formerly belonging to Charles Hallidaynortherly by the Creek containing about two acres & one half Also I give to the said Aaron about one acre of marsh lying on the north side of the aforementioned Creek running from the said Creek to the north line of the said Marsh him his Heirs or Assigns forever. To my son John I give & Bequeath the whole of the remainder of the Homestead both Upland and Marshland together with all my Buildings & Improvements thereon or anyways belonging to the same. Also I give & bequeath to my said son John all my stock of Horses Cattle sheep etc. that I may own at my death also all my Farming utensils him his Heirs or Assigns forever. My Household Furniture I give & dispose of as Follows- To my son John one Bed Bedstead & Bedding six Mahogany Chairs & the Kitchen Table one Iron pot one Tea Kettle. The remainder of the household furniture I will & Bequeath as follows to the Children (or the survivers of them) of my Daughter Aley to my Daughters Elizabeth, Hannah, Frances & Mary the remainder of my Furniture to be equally divided among them at the death of my beloved Wife or in case of the death of any of my Daughters their Children to have their mother’s part. Lastly I nominate and Appoint my Beloved Wife Executrix with my son John Executor of this my Last Will & testament revoking all other Wills heretofore made by me declaring this only to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this twenty eight day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty-four.
