Here is a transcription of the codicil of Valentine Troop of Granville dated 6 August 1776:
Whearas I Valentine Troop have some time Past Will’d on Certain Conditions my Estate to either my sons Joseph or John: But now its my will that my s’d son John inherit Really & not my sonJoseph he the s’d John paying all the Legeses & Conditions Prescribed in my s’d will to which I order this as a Codicil or addition & Dun this sixth Day of August 1776.
