Since 1969, and the opening of the O’Dell House Museum, the Annapolis Heritage Society has become the repository for many items relating to the history of the community, donated both by area citizens and descendants of former residents. Prior to that date most such objects were donated to the Officer’s Quarters at Fort Anne, opened in 1919 as Canada’s first national historic site. The opening of the O’Dell House as the town’s “community” museum coincided with a Parks Canada decision to focus on the complex military history at the Fort Anne site. In the more than 40 years since, the Society has acquired many single items and several notable collections. The Collections of the Annapolis Heritage Society have been divided into two categories, artifacts and archives.
